So my mailbox has been delluged lately with comment spam. Is Viagara, Cialis, and all those medications really that popular or hard to get that people actually buy it illegally over the internet?
So after watching a few sneak through the spam filter I’m seriously considering a few measures, either….
- Really cranking up the spam filter
- Forcing moderation on all unauthenticated posts. (You can create logins if you want to bypass this)
So why am I bothering to write this? I want to let people know that while it may appear that comments are moderated (filtered) the only alterations made to comments are out and out deleteions — and only for spam. The last ditch option is to just disable comments, as I know Simon has on his blog. If there are dissenting options to my ideas, comments or code, I’d honestly like to hear them.
Down the with the spammers….

You seem to be running WP.. do you have Akismet and Bad Behavior installed?

I used the Akismet spam monitoring Wordpress plugin and it seems to keep all spam out of my way. I would try that since you use Wordpress.
Also, did you knwo the name, mail and website fields on your comments form are in white text? It’s impossible to read what I write in there unless I highlight the text after I write it.
