So today SFDC apparently started sending out the emails to the customers letting us know when they are splitting the NA1 cluster (and mabye others?) up. Let me end the suspense: June 17th.

Also today I got no less then 3 different emails from orgs using SFDC that are staying on NA1. Here’s the (redacted) email they sent out:

Subject: Your Salesforce.com organization is moving to NA1
From: Salesforce.com
Reply-To: Salesforce.com

Dear Customer, As part of our efforts to optimize the salesforce.com service architecture by separating our NA1 service instance into four new instances, NA1, NA2, NA3, and NA4, we are planning to leave your Salesforce.com organization (REDACTED, id: 00D-REDACTED-) on the NA1 instance. Our earlier communication on the service architecture optimizations and NA1 migration plan is available here: http://salesforce.rsc01.net/servlet/website/ResponseForm?REDACTEDWhen will the migration happen?
The migration is targeted for June 17th.

What can I expect when my Salesforce.com organization is migrated?

You can expect no change in the functionality of your Salesforce.com organization on the NA1 instance. You should continue to log in to the application just as you do today by going to www.salesforce.com and selecting the Customer Login tab. After you log in, you will notice that your instance is included in the URL as na1.salesforce.com.

What do I do if I have any problems accessing Salesforce.com on NA1?

Please contact our support organization, on (415) 901 7010, send email to support@salesforce.com or log a case via Help & Training to make us aware of any problem you experience. We will rectify the situation as soon as possible.

What further communication can I expect from Salesforce.com?

You can expect confirmation of the date when the NA1 migration will take place, one week before the actual move. As questions arise or new information becomes available, we will send appropriate updates.

Thank you.

Regards,
Salesforce.com Technology Team

The three emails all made the same comment:

Aren’t we already on NA1?

Having had to do a large complicated email campaign for another SFDC user I can see how something like this can slip by… But something as simple as not changing the subject line for those that are actually moving vs. staying cheapens the user experience.

To be fair, the email sent to the customers moving to another server was fine, even good. :D

Indeed… and hows this for a little thing. My rep IM’d me today and said, “hey I see you’re registered to for the AppExchange Dev conference, see you there” I replied… Yeah.. I’m speaking. Her reply: oh… I feel dumb.

It appears SFDC doesn’t really have a good handle on letting their reps know what their customers are envolved with, only that they’re going.

I don’t think it’s a lack of communication, rather the department that deals with the confrence signup’s does not tell their sales reps if any of their people are coming till like the last minute.

    Apostle,
I have to disagree, in part. I do believe it’s a lack of communication, in Fifedog’s case at least. Either a) the rep didn’t read the activity/notes on the contact record SFDC has for him, or b) the person who set him up to speak didn’t note it in the record in a way that would make it obvious.
(For example logging a task with a subject of “Email: Hey…” that has notes on a multimillion dollar sale is miscommunication internally.)
Lastly, the goal of a good CRM implementation (including buyin from the users) is such that anyone can view a record, or set of records, about an individual/company/etc and get all the relivant details on that entity with a minimum of effort. The failure of CRM happens when that data is mis-entered (my email example above) or not entered at all.
